TÜV Rheinland Expands Consumer Goods Inspection Service for Retail Brands and Buyers

Firm Able to Perform Factory Inspections to Ensure Every Retail Product Sold Meets Local, Global and Private Quality and Safety Standards before Market Release

LITTLETON, Mass., March 13, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- TÜV Rheinland, a testing and certification leader at the forefront of interoperability, performance and safety in the globally connected world, today announced its ability to conduct third-party inspection of consumer products and goods directly at the manufacturing source on behalf of retail stores, brands and buyers.

With the new offering, retailers stand to increase their brand protection and trust with independent, third-party validation of a commitment to safe, quality products. TÜV Rheinland will identify critical defects before products hit the shelf, resulting in fewer product defects and returns. In instances where it discovers an imperfection, TÜV Rheinland can offer technical advice and suggestions for corrective actions.

Product inspection plays a critical fiduciary role throughout the consumer goods industry. For example, a recent consumer electronics recall cost the manufacturer an estimated $5.3 billion in lost production and penalties, all of which could have been avoided by an independent quality inspection that would have identified issues with battery mechanics.

TÜV Rheinland retail inspection services cover a wide range of consumer products and household goods, including furniture, electronics, toys, cosmetics, textiles, apparels, footwear and many more.

“The entire retail industry can benefit from TÜV Rheinland’s global presence and extensive knowledge of quality and safety standards across multiple industry sectors and regions,” said Philip Tonks, lead representative, retail inspection services at TÜV Rheinland. “Our prompt inspections verify goods comply with applicable requirements – local, international and buyer-specific – while driving better factory efficiency and a faster time-to-market.”

TÜV Rheinland has a team of specialized inspectors on the ground, covering every corner of the globe to inspect and verify product quality directly on the manufacturing premises, before it ships. In addition, TÜV Rheinland can assist through all stages of the production process, including:

  • Factory Evaluations (FEV) are carried out at the pre-production stage to determine whether the manufacturer can fulfill all technical, organizational, social and security requirements. We provide you with complete and reliable information on the actual capabilities of the factory.
  • Initial Production Check (IPC) determines that all components, raw materials, storage procedures, and first-production runs are compliant with requirements to avoid time-consuming and potentially costly delays.
  • During Production (DUPRO) Check to verify product compliance with Acceptable Quality Levels, so that every product is sellable and consumer-ready, every time.
  • Final Random Inspection conducted after products are ready for shipment. TÜV Rheinland inspectors select a random sample and re-test the product to verify all contractual specifications have been met.
  • Loading Supervision to ensure final products passing inspection are the same as products being shipped out to consumers. This is a final check-and-balance to deliver product consistency and ensure quality control.
