SAN FRANCISCO, March 29, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, Interop ITX, the independent conference for tech leaders, announced specialized programming to address critical findings reported in its new State of the Cloud and State of DevOps research reports. The conference will provide attendees with workshops, hands-on sessions and moderated discussions that dive deep into the needs of the community based on responses from those working through today’s technology challenges.
Interop ITX will take place April 30 – May 4, 2018 at the Mirage in Las Vegas, NV. For more information and to register, please visit: interopitx.com/
Adoption of DevOps and Cloud are major trends significantly affecting IT organizations in all industries. As today’s leaders develop their own implementation plans, they require up-to-date information to make the most informed choices to affect business outcomes. To support the technology community in these decisions, Interop ITX deployed the State of the Cloud and State of DevOps research reports to explore the attitudes and experiences of industry professionals in both areas. Additionally, specialized programming has been selected to encourage best practices and to keep technology professionals informed moving into the future.
“We’re thrilled to be coupling Interop ITX’s research initiatives with our 2018 programming to address the needs of our audience,” said Meghan Reilly, Interop ITX General Manager. “Our agenda is crafted to meet the interests of those directly working through the ever-changing trends of the technology industry, and a combination of compelling research followed by sessions filled with valuable insights gives our attendees the tools to keep up.”
Cloud
Interop ITX has monitored the expansion of the cloud with dedicated research that identifies trends in real-world deployments. Most notably, it’s clear that more workloads are moving to the public cloud from the private cloud. In 2014, only 24% of respondents had most of their workloads in the public cloud, but that has now substantially increased to more than 40%. At the same time, the number of respondents who are developing hybrid cloud capabilities has dropped significantly, from 70% two years ago to 30% this year. These varying findings indicate the complexity of using and managing multiple clouds as well as the effects of emerging technologies such as containers and serverless architecture. Interop ITX will explore these trends with the following programming this year:
- Cloud Price War: Metrics for Comparing Public and Private Cloud, Grant Kirkwood, Co-Founder and CTO, Unitas Global
- How Linden Lab Built a Virtual World in AWS, Courtney Christensen, Backend Web Developer, Linden Lab
- Container Concepts Explained in Plain Language, Scott Lowe, Engineering Architect, VMware, Inc.
- Bringing Intelligence to Edge Computing Through Machine Learning, Janakiram MSV, Analyst, Advisor, Architect, Janakiram & Associates
- Building a Kubernetes Cluster and Pipeline in the Amazon Cloud, Oleg Chunikhin, CTO, Kublr
- Getting Started with Serverless (Workshop), Kassandra Perch, Developer Relations Engineer, IOpipe

DevOps
According to the State of DevOps, DevOps adoption is now widespread. A third of respondents said they have already implemented the approach, which is up 18% from last year. Another 35% plan to adopt the methodology before the year is up, proving further that growth is on the horizon. The demand for DevOps also stems from organizations’ need for speed: Nearly 60% reported that the pressure to release applications more quickly was driving their DevOps adoption, which is almost a 30% increase from 2017. Interop ITX will support the need for DevOps adoption and integration with a dedicated track encompassing the following highlighted sessions:
- The Next Wave of Reliability Engineering, Michael Kehoe, Staff Site Reliability Engineer, LinkedIn
- Achieving Rapid Product Innovation with Lean Techniques and DevOps, Greg Newton, Vice President, Technology, Asurion
- Ops Happens: Improving Incident Response Using DevOps and SRE Practices, Damon Edwards, Founder, Rundeck, Inc.
- DevOps Today: What Does It Mean to You, Rosalind Radcliffe, Distinguished Engineer, IBM
- AI for DevOps – Using Metrics, KPIs, and Analytics to Drive Continuous Improvement, Andi Mann, Chief Technology Advocate, Splunk
Additionally, Interop ITX will be offering the DevOps Foundation Certification Course, a two-day program that allows attendees to earn an introductory DevOps certification at no additional cost.
