Friendship Place to Host Timely Symposium on "Race and Homelessness"

National Experts and Advocates to Join Discussion

Washington, DC, April 02, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WASHINGTON, DC – Friendship Place will host “Race and Homelessness,” a symposium addressing disparities among how homelessness is experienced across races, on April 4th at 7 PM at National United Methodist Church (3401 Nebraska Avenue, NW).

This year’s discussion, part of Friendship Place’s Annual Education and Advocacy symposium series, will be an opportunity to deepen the conversation about concrete strategies, which organizations like Friendship Place need to leverage to address racial inequities in efforts to prevent and end homelessness.

“Race and Homelessness” will feature several high-profile and influential advocates and activists, and will be moderated by Sasha-Ann Simons of WAMU.

Featured speakers include:
Amanda Andere, Chief Executive Officer, Funders Together to End Homelessness
Brittani Manzo, Policy Advisor, U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness
Kathryn Monet, Chief Executive Officer, National Coalition for Homeless Veterans
Marc Dones, Project Director, Center for Social Innovation
Nan Roman, President and Chief Executive Officer, National Alliance to End Homelessness
Sara Simone, Case Manager, Friendship Place

“People of color experience homelessness in great numbers,” says Friendship Place President and CEO, Jean- Michel Giraud. “Race remains a key factor in understanding the disparities in housing, employment, and economics. It is thus critical for us to identify and tackle the issues related to race and homelessness.”
