CBRS Alliance Launches OnGo™ Brand and OnGo Certification Program

Latest Milestones in the Democratization of Wireless – led by the CBRS Alliance – will Enable Uncompromised Connectivity and Customizability for Enterprise Networks

WASHINGTON, May 08, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, at its Annual Members Meeting, the CBRS Alliance launched the OnGo™ brand. OnGo represents uncompromised wireless connectivity – enabled by spectrum sharing in the 3.5 GHz band – that will fuel innovation in industrial IoT (IIoT) applications and expand indoor and outdoor coverage and capacity for new Private LTE and neutral host business opportunities.

As part of the OnGo introduction, the CBRS Alliance also debuted the OnGo Certification Program. Looking ahead, OnGo Certified products will be trusted to demonstrate end-to-end interoperability and optimized performance by leveraging an innovative, spectrum-sharing approach to mobile broadband in the 3.5 GHz band. The OnGo baseline technical specifications also align with WInnForum standards and are designed to ensure all products that earn OnGo Certification also receive simultaneous FCC Certification.

The OnGo Advantage

OnGo equips the entire ecosystem – including member companies and the broader industry – with three advantages:

  • A simple, yet powerful platform for articulating the expanded business opportunities tied to the rapid and widespread adoption of spectrum-sharing wireless solutions;
  • Access to the tremendous economies of scale provided by the prevalent global wireless standard for mobile cellular radio represented by 4G LTE, as well as a roadmap to progress towards 5G;
  • A strong foundation, which guarantees interoperability and optimized product performance across the ecosystem with the OnGo Certification Program.

These are critical to fostering a sense of trust within end-user communities, and to enabling the widespread, long-term success of OnGo customers and the industry as a whole.

The positive impact tied to launching OnGo was not only a collaborative effort driven by CBRS Alliance member companies; it was also deeply rooted in, and validated by, direct feedback from key stakeholders who represent the IIoT, in-building and public space communities as part of the CBRS Alliance Business Working Group (BWG).

Such key stakeholders include Cris Kimbrough, Senior Vice President, Building Technology Services at the world’s largest commercial real estate services firm, CBRE. She co-chairs the In-Building Task Group within the BWG, and is an early adopter who recognized the potential of OnGo to help building owners and property managers navigate an increasingly complex wireless landscape.

Kimbrough explains how the OnGo brand will better illustrate the business value tied to shared spectrum: “OnGo will allow me to more easily articulate the many innovative business opportunities that will unfold as a result of opening the 3.5 GHz band for commercial sharing, significantly streamlining conversations within the real estate industry. Most importantly, OnGo will allow us to focus on the massive value associated with uncompromised connectivity, which is what matters most to everyone.”

“CBRE is committed to identifying building elements that provide future-proofing as part of its alignment to support our clients’ technology strategy,” said Rick Varnell, CBRE EVP Building Technology Services - a new division of the firm that was created in order to advise clients on which solutions add by maximizing net operating income, and optimizing client occupancy.

OnGo Certified will Enable Industry-Wide Interoperability

The OnGo Certification Program - which is launched with support from CBRS Alliance member companies, the CTIA, and more than 10 global test labs - will ensure simple integration and seamless deployment of OnGo wireless solutions.

“We’re forecasting OnGo growth in five different business models,” affirmed Joe Madden, Founder and President at Mobile Experts. “The odds of a strong growth market are very high for OnGo, because there’s a rich mixture of mobile operators, cable operators, neutral hosts and enterprises that will be well-positioned for successful deployment and seamless interoperability through the OnGo Certification Program.”

He expressed his confidence in the adoption of OnGo, stating, “There’s strong pent-up demand for businesses that want better LTE coverage, but they cannot buy a product that is inexpensive and easy to use. At about 40 cents per square foot, and very simple installation, OnGo has the potential to open up the huge untapped enterprise market.”

The OnGo Certification Program will begin accepting products for evaluation this month.

“This collaborative, industry-wide approach to OnGo certification has fueled tremendous growth and will continue to play a key role in enabling increased coverage and capacity, on a massive scale, for wireless customers across vertical industries,” said Dave Wright, president of the CBRS Alliance. “Together, both the OnGo brand and the OnGo certification program will simplify and maximize the value tied to commercial deployment of spectrum-sharing wireless solutions in the 3.5 GHz band.”
