Alexandria, Va, May 16, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GlyphEd™, the leading provider of interactive data visualization and discovery technology for college and university management teams, announced the incorporation of GlyphEd's Data Science Initiative into the University of Notre Dame's Visualization of Data class. Students used GlyphEd’s SynGlyphX® Inside software in an advanced class: Visual Communication Design 10: Visualization of Data that explores packaging of complex data and concepts. Notre Dame's students used GlyphEd's 3D data visualization software to explore and communicate the meaning of complex data.
The class is led by Neeta Verma, the Robert P. Sedlack, Jr. Associate Professor and Fellow at the Liu Institute at Notre Dame. She integrated GlyphEd's SynGlyphX Inside as a visualization tool for her design students. In her classes, Professor Verma focuses on how data can be used to tell a story as opposed to merely packaging and plotting a set of numbers on a page. By combining research with pre-attentive attributes, students understand the visual methodologies for creating compelling representations that engage audiences.
Professor Verma included GlyphEd's Data Science Initiative within her class because of its ability to package complex variables and represent them together synchronously.
GlyphEd, a SynGlyphX Inside company, uses both the common understanding and scientific research that shows humans recognize cultural symbols of meaning (e.g., big is more, small is less, green is good, red is bad). GlyphEd uses these principles to visually represent data as glyphs: a collection of geometric objects that have data mapped to properties of color, shape, size, position to convey meaning to users.
GlyphEd transforms data into a visual, 3D, immersive and interactive environment that simplifies and expedites analysis of vast amounts of data, in context. It works on commercially available hardware used within the majority of corporate and academic organizations worldwide.
"Using GlyphEd's SynGlyphX Inside software allows designers to easily see and reveal the stories that are inherent within data," Verma said.
GlyphEd’s Data Science Student Initiative enables universities and high schools to incorporate GlyphEd™ software as a part of their computer, data science, and information design curriculums. Students use the GlyphIT™ software suite to discover insights in data and explore how multi-dimensional glyph-based visualizations can drive efficiency and effectiveness gains in insight discovery.
"It is an honor to work with Professor Neeta Verma and everyone at Notre Dame, who are working to help people explore and use data to its fullest potential," said Mark Sloan, Founder and CEO of GlyphEd. “Notre Dame’s use of our software on campus – along with those at other campuses – continues to demonstrate how the SynGlyphX Inside software helps users discover insights that change their world. Whether it is healthcare data, United Nations data, or video game data – these students are discovering insights in complex data that they otherwise would not find.”
