Dittman Eyecare Brings Myopia Control Clinic to Patients

Dittman Eyecare's Myopia Control Program Can Eliminate or Reduce The Need for Eyeglasses for Children

Cranberry Township, PA, July 24, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- PITTSBURGH – Dittman Eyecare offers customized Myopia Control Programs

Dittman Eyecare Inc., an experienced eyecare provider with locations in Butler and Cranberry, offers myopia control treatment programs to correct and possibly stop or slow the worsening of nearsightedness (myopia).

With the rate of nearsightedness in children increasing by almost 70% in the U.S. since the 1970s, Dittman Eyecare saw a need for myopia control programs to help treat this epidemic. In 2016, Dittman Eyecare started a Myopia Control Clinic and began offering customized myopia control programs to their patients.

“We’re actually looking at the child and giving them a solution to not only their problem of blurry vision but hopefully a solution to the worsening of their vision” said Dr. Michael J. Dittman, founder of Dittman Eyecare. He said they are taking a more proactive approach in treating myopia by using methods to slow or stop the progression of myopia, rather than just treating the symptoms.

Dittman said as myopia progresses, the risk of retinal disease, glaucoma, and early cataracts increases significantly in children which can lead to a higher rate of vision loss. “We’re looking at the long-term problems that can occur and potentially being able to minimize loss of vision in the future,” said Dittman.

Dittman Eyecare currently uses three proven methods to help slow this disease and lessen the chance of the condition worsening. These methods include a soft multifocal contact worn during the day, a special lens (corneal reshaping lens) that is worn at night, or an eye drop.

The corneal reshaping lens and the soft multifocal contact work on the same principal. They both create a special defocus on the retina that can help to slow down the elongation of the eye. Corneal reshaping lenses, when worn consistently each night while sleeping, will not only help slow the progression of myopia, but they also provide clear vision without the need for contacts or glasses during the day.

The eye drop is a diluted concentration of atropine and the dosage is one drop daily at bedtime. Based on two-year studies, this eye drop offers a very strong control of myopia with little to no side effects. Dittman Eyecare offers complimentary myopia consultations to help parents learn what options are available for their child.

Dittman Eyecare Inc., founded in 2003, provides excellent patient service and care at their Butler and Cranberry locations. They put their patients first, offering them warm hospitality and a comfortable atmosphere during their visit. In addition to providing quality care and extensive eyecare services, Dittman Eyecare also works with local charities and sponsors various community events and associations.
