CHICAGO, Aug. 13, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Innovation, openness, data sharing and connectivity continues to be the core principles driving Allscripts (NASDAQ: MDRX). The company has recently crossed the threshold of more than four billion total API data exchange transactions since it started counting in 2013 and commends Allscripts partner Microsoft and the coalition of technology companies coming together today to pledge to remove interoperability barriers at the Blue Button 2.0 Developer Conference in the White House.
Since 2007, the company has facilitated connected care communities through its open platform and its relationships with innovative software developers. The Allscripts Developer Program (ADP) focuses on connecting innovative applications and devices with Allscripts solutions to advance the company’s vision of an open, connected community of health across the globe. The program provides an ecosystem of support and understanding of developers’ needs in a holistic way – end to end – from when they first start exploring their options through development and testing of a solution and ultimately supporting its use at a client site. ADP enables developers to see actual usage data for the clients using their integrated solution and provides support and information at every stage of the journey for all types of individuals who wish to integrate with Allscripts products.
“We are trying to create a new mentality of innovation for our clients, so that they view innovation as a path to improve overall workflows and connect with patients,” said Tina Joros, VP and General Manager, Open Business Unit at Allscripts. “We have made our API platform easily accessible and cost effective for developers to use, so that they can develop and test their solutions. This includes the ability for developers to use our FHIR APIs to meet regulatory requirements for our shared clients at no cost.”
To date, ADP has more than 8,000 registered developers using its APIs and more than 1,600 client activations of third-party solutions. More than 2,770 developers have signed up to be in one of the ADP tiers that allow them to build, license, and distribute their solutions to Allscripts clients. ADP has certified more than 175 distinct applications and devices for its partners, all currently available on the company’s application store.
Allscripts expects to hit the next billion API data share milestone in an even shorter amount of time due to its client’s increased utilization of certified third-party apps and devices. Allscripts was the first major EHR company to have a robust developer program with others in the industry eventually following suit.
“Healthcare data exchange has always and will continue to be a top priority for Allscripts,” said Allscripts Chief Executive Officer, Paul Black. “We are delighted to hear that our partner Microsoft and others are committing to actively engaging among open source and open standards communities, like Allscripts, for the development of healthcare standards, and tools to foster innovation. This ongoing collaboration is what the industry needs for better patient care, higher user satisfaction, and lower costs. For the patient, a complete view of their health record will allow for a paralleled management of their health care.”
