Fragrance Creators Association Urges USTR to Exclude Key Fragrance Ingredients from Chinese Tariffs

In public comments, the association identifies how increased tariffs on fragrance ingredients will negatively impact American businesses, consumers, and the economy.

Washington, DC, Sept. 07, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On September 6, 2018, Fragrance Creators Association submitted comments in response to The Office of the United States Trade Representative’s (USTR’s) proposed Section 301 tariffs, which would impose an additional ad valorem duty of 10 or 25% on products from China.

Our comments make the case for removal of fragrance ingredients, such as natural extracts and other raw materials that are used in perfumery and fragrance mixtures, from the proposed Section 301 tariff list.

We are deeply concerned about the severe impact these tariffs would have on our member companies, jobs, and the broader American economy.  In addition, the proposed tariffs will disproportionately and negatively impact small- and mid-sized companies as well as U.S. consumers--two specific targets that USTR has stated it seeks to protect.

It is clear that the short- and long-term impacts of such fragrance-related tariffs will hurt companies and consumers while failing to advance the Administration’s policy goals.
