ISTANBUL, Turkey, Sept. 24, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The TRT World Citizen Awards will be hosted in Istanbul on October 3rd to coincide with the TRT World Forum, a summit of international thought-leaders and policy makers.
The awards recognize individuals from around the world who have been engaged in groundbreaking and remarkable work in service to humanity.
The World Citizen Awards will be hosted on the evening of October 3rd, 2018 in Istanbul, Turkey. The event will be a Gala dinner at the Raffles Hotel in Zorlu Center, with attendees from around the world in the fields of politics, academia, arts and entertainment, humanitarian aid, and business.
The Director General of TRT, Ibrahim Eren, will open the night with a presentation on the work of TRT World Citizen during the last year. This will be followed by a key speech by Turkey’s First Lady, Emine Erdogan.
Four awards will be conferred in the categories of Education, Communication and Lifetime Achievement, and there will be a special honour: “Citizen of the Year”.
The night will also include the three finalists of TRT World Citizen’s inSHORT Film Competition, which received over three thousand submissions of creative short films from 110 countries representing the plight of child refugees.
The four award categories are:
1. Educator Award – celebrates and empowers an outstanding educator to vulnerable or underserved populations.
2. Communicator Award – recognizes an individual who has made an impact in the world by connecting with the hearts of people.
3. World Citizen Award (Lifetime Achievement) – honours an individual for a lifetime of contributions to society through service and leadership. This individual will have been involved consistently in remarkable humanitarian endeavors.
4. Citizen Of the Year Award – honours an individual in any field of work whose efforts and acts of service have made a dramatic and exemplary impact in the past year, inspiring us to strive harder and live a life in service to humanity.
