QUEENS, N.Y., Oct. 02, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Since becoming a board-certified prosthodontist, Sameet Sheth, DDS has maintained membership in the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP)—the organization that represents the specialty of prosthodontics—and has devoted the last five years in various positions on the Board of Directors for the New York Section (NYS). Recently, he received the honor of becoming the new President of the ACP-NYS Board of Directors, which entails a one-year term. Dr. Sheth looks forward to taking on his new leadership responsibilities, working together with his colleagues, and continuing the valuable work the New York Section does to support prosthodontists, dental students, and advancements in prosthodontics.
In discussing his new role, Dr. Sheth points out that the New York Section is the largest local chapter of the American College of Prosthodontists in the nation and devotes its energy and resources toward advocating for prosthodontic education and growth for local specialists. Throughout the year, the group puts on two scientific meetings, which take place in the spring and fall. Tickets to the events are available to ACP members, residents, and dental students, and each meeting centers around a main speaker and topic. For example, this fall’s meeting on October 18th will include a presentation from oral and maxillofacial surgeon Salvatore Ruggiero, MD, DMD, FACS, focusing on a review and update of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). The ACP-NYS also works tirelessly to provide educational grants for research related to prosthodontic care, host table clinics and poster presentations for New York state's prosthodontic residents, and collaborate with local prosthodontists during National Prosthodontics Awareness Week (NPAW).
For Dr. Sheth and ACP-NYS, the upcoming year will primarily center around recruiting and retaining members through engaging educational programs and activities, as well as communicating with prosthodontic program directors and prosthodontic educators to maximize resident and dental student participation. Dr. Sheth extends his gratitude for his new position as President and anticipates a productive year with the incoming Board of Directors.
