Children’s Miracle Network and Walmart Celebrate $1 Billion Fundraising Milestone Benefiting Sick and Injured Children Across North America

This milestone achievement is first of its kind in North America

Toronto, Oct. 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Walmart, together with its associates and customers across Canada and the U.S., have made history by raising and donating $1 billion for the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) over the past thirty years.

“As one of the longest standing and most valued corporate partners, Walmart has built a legacy of amazing achievements, and this $1 billion milestone is no exception,” said Mark Hierlihy, president and CEO, Children’s Miracle Network. “This outstanding contribution is a testament to Walmart’s commitment to helping families in need. We’re proud to have Walmart as a partner supporting children's health."

All money raised in Canada for Children’s Miracle Network member hospital foundations is directed to the areas that need it most. This includes specialized equipment for NICU babies, research to discover cures and treatments or special services to support patients and families.

“Together with the generosity of our associates and customers, Walmart Canada is proud to be a long-standing supporter of the Children’s Miracle Network,” said Lee Tappenden, president and CEO, Walmart Canada. “The courage and resilience of the children I’ve met through the Champions program is truly inspiring and the reason we continue to support the amazing work done by the Children’s Miracle Network and in its member hospitals in improving the health of children across North America.”

Walmart Canada has supported children’s hospitals across Canada through a partnership with CMN since 1994.

“Research done by Engage for Good shows that the cumulative $1 billion in cash raised for CMN over the years by Walmart represents the largest amount ever raised and donated for a nonprofit by one company in North America,” said David Hessekiel, president of Engage for Good, a trade group that tracks cross-sector efforts to generate positive social and business impacts.
