Mobility technology leader Bombardier Transportation will present its latest railway innovations at the Persontrafik exhibition and seminars in Stockholm on October 22-24.
Anna Höjer, Head of Nordics and Managing Director Sweden, Bombardier Transportation said, “We are proud to present Bombardier’s latest innovations for sustainable mobility at the Persontrafik exhibition, including our ground-breaking BOMBARDIER MITRAC TC1500 propulsion solution and battery-operated electro-hybrid train”. She added, “Under our new slogan ‘Together we move’, we will showcase our complete value chain of high performing mobility solutions for metro, light rail, regional and high-speed applications, including trains, signalling and services solutions, many of which already keep our Nordic cities on the move.”
Bombardier’s exhibition stand will feature the latest digital display technologies, including a virtual reality presentation of the new BOMBARDIER MOVIA C30 metro for Stockholm’s Red line and interactive touch screens to show Bombardier’s complete portfolio of high-performance solutions.
Designed and built in Sweden, an energy-saving MITRAC traction converter 1500 with silicon carbide technology will be on display following its successful trials on a MOVIA C20 train on the Stockholm Metro’s Green line. Results of the trials, completed during passenger services from December 2017 to March 2018, showed up to 35 percent reduction in energy consumption, 19 dB lower noise emissions, a 51 percent reduction in size and 22 percent less weight for the propulsion system. Bombardier and its partners - Stockholm County Council, MTR Tech, the Swedish Energy Agency, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and RISE / Acreo – first presented the successful results of this joint research program in March 2018.
Bombardier will hold two open seminars during Persontrafik dedicated to zero-emission trains for the Nordic market. Emission-free, energy-efficient and low-noise – Bombardier has recently launched its new battery-operated train solution which charges its batteries from the overhead line while driving. A huge step forward and the epitome of innovation, the current prototype is a BOMBARDIER TALENT 3 electro-hybrid train equipped with four BOMBARDIER MITRAC traction batteries. Thanks to Bombardier’s modular design concept, the battery will also be featured as a Nordic application in the BOMBARDIER ZEFIRO Express battery-electric multiple unit (BEMU). In 2019, in time for the next generation of battery-operated trains required for Baden Württemberg, it will be possible to cover distances of up to 100 kilometres on non-electrified railways. The seminars will take place on Tuesday, October 23, at 10:30-11:15 and 15:15-16:00 (please visit our stand for more details).
In the Persontrafik seminar program, Anna Höjer, Bombardier Transportation, Peter Uneklint, Trafikverket (Swedish Transport Administration) and Christine Leppänen, Länstrafiken Jönköping will talk about the impact on regional rail traffic following the decision to implement high-speed trains. This session will take place on October 24, at 12:00-12:30.
Bombardier is an important player in the Nordic rail industry and well known for delivering high quality products and services. Current projects include 96 four-car MOVIA C30 metro trainsets (with an option for 80 more) for Stockholm’s public transport authority, Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL), 40 BOMBARDIER FLEXITY City trams with Vossloh Kiepe electrical equipment for Göteborgs Spårvägar in Gothenburg (with options for a further 60 trams) and 40 high-speed regional trains ZEFIRO Express for operator Västtrafik (with an option for 60 additional trains). Bombardier’s Rail Control Solutions division has a major signalling technology hub in Stockholm. It is currently implementing rail traffic management systems (known as ERTMS) for Sweden’s national transport administration. Bombardier also has a strong Services presence across the Nordics region, providing fleet maintenance and service support for various rolling stock fleets.
