ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Oct. 25, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB™) today announced the launch of the MiLB Associates Program, a multi-faceted post-graduate internship opportunity at the league office for individuals seeking careers in professional sports. The 2019 MiLB Associates Program, which begins in January and concludes in December, is an amplification of the current internship structure.

The program will feature learning and professional development opportunities at the Minor League Baseball office in St. Petersburg, Florida, in a variety of departments. Positions are available in communications, community & government relations, digital marketing & analytics, diversity & inclusion, marketing, special events and trade show services. Associates will work closely with their respective departments and the MiLB staff to enhance their understanding of Minor League Baseball and its teams.

“Individuals participating in the MiLB Associates Program will not only gain invaluable experience with a professional sports league, but they will also get a jump start on their careers,” said Tara Thornton, Manager, Human Resources for Minor League Baseball. “This program is designed to give associates a comprehensive understanding of their assigned department and overall exposure to Minor League Baseball, while creating a pipeline for those individuals to begin a career in sports, more specifically, in Minor League Baseball.”

Associates will be given the opportunity to learn about their specific area of interest while gaining meaningful hands-on experience in the successful overall operation of a professional sports league. Through unique ballpark experiences, team projects and attendance at marquee industry and networking events, including the Baseball Winter Meetings™, among many other opportunities, Minor League Baseball will prepare the next generation of leaders for successful careers in the baseball industry.

The advanced, full-time model will allow MiLB to recruit and attract top talent from across the country. Recognizing that many individuals will have to relocate to take advantage of this opportunity, MiLB is also offering benefits and housing search assistance to its associates, making the program accessible to more individuals. Additionally, associates will receive complimentary access to hundreds of job postings on PBEO.com, the official employment service of Minor League Baseball, during their associate term.
