Another NHS trust in Kent takes the first step on its electronic patient record journey
CHICAGO, Nov. 06, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust has gone live with the Allscripts patient administration system, following its neighbor Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
The two organizations ran a joint PAS procurement as part of the South Acute Program that was set-up to give providers in the south of England access to central funding for technology, following the end of the National Program for IT. Both picked the Allscripts PAS in July 2014. The successful go-live at East Kent completes a major development and deployment project for Allscripts, which is now contracted to deploy its Sunrise electronic patient record
East Kent Hospitals extended its initial engagement with Allscripts by contracting for Sunrise in December 2016. Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells did the same in August 2018. Nearby Medway NHS Foundation Trust is also an Allscripts PAS customer.
Steve Brain, vice president and UK managing director, Allscripts, said: “This was an exceptionally smooth and calm go-live, at the end of a long deployment project. That was a tribute to the trust, which worked hard to make sure that its clinical services owned the transition, and to the collaboration within Implementation teams. We now look forward to working with both East Kent and Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells on EPR deployments that will deliver significant benefits to their clinicians and patients.”
In July, UK prime minister Theresa May announced a significant funding boost for the NHS, which is developing a ten-year plan to outline how it will use the money to meet growing demand while improving clinical services.
The ten-year plan is expected to focus on creating integrated care services (ICS) and expanding the use of population health management tools.
Steve Brain added: “The go-live at East Kent, plus Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells’ decision earlier this year to join it in deploying the Sunrise EPR, positions the entire region in a stronger position to move forward with the creation of a Kent wide integrated care record.
“Three out of four acute trusts in Kent are now Allscripts customers, which means they have systems that are open, interoperable, and ready to share information with each other. We look forward to working with them on further projects that demonstrate the value of Allscripts commitment to open, connected communities of care.”
