Lightwave Logic Joins OIF and 100G Lambda MSA


Englewood, CO, Nov. 07, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Lightwave Logic, Inc. (OTCQB: LWLG), a leader in electro-optic polymer technology, today announced that it has joined two leading industry groups that promote commercial viability of optical technology innovation. Participation in these activities allows Lightwave Logic to contribute its voice to industry direction and to further market acceptance of its high-speed polymer modulator capabilities.  

The Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) (http://www.oiforum.com)  seeks to accelerate the deployment of new optical networking technology through technical Implementation Agreements (IAs) and other technical documents.  These documents are cooperatively produced by its membership which encompasses end-users, service providers, equipment vendors and technology providers. 

Multi-source agreements (MSA) have become a common type of interoperability agreement amongst consortia of key stakeholders in the fiber optic communications industry. The 100G Lambda MSA (http://100glambda.com/) is defining a new set of optical interface specifications that use an optical channel data rate of 100 Gbps to lower the cost of links needed in high density multi-Terabit switching, routing and transport networks for datacenter, metro, and telecommunications markets.

Lightwave Logic joined these entities because of its interest in contributing to their activities around the fastest data rates. These entities facilitate industry convergence and market acceleration while still protecting the intellectual property and paper positions of their members. OIF has projects on multiple reaches of electrical interfaces running at 112 Gbps per lane. It is also standardizing a new optical interface called 400ZR that runs at 400 Gbps. 100G Lambda MSA has published specifications for 400G-FR4 (4 lanes x 100 Gbps) with 2 km reach, 100G-FR with 2 km reach and 100G-LR with 10 km reach.  These 400Gbps interfaces will be implemented in the datacenter environment and are expected to grow in volume quickly.
