The Laudato si’ Challenge Invites Peter Fiekowsky of the Foundation for Climate Restoration to Present Solutions to Restore the Climate

Peter Fiekowsky and Emma Roseline will Co-Present Fishery Restoration and Ocean Biocarbon Pilot Program as Viable Way to Improve the Livelihood of Malagasy People - Increasing Ocean Life while Simultaneously Removing Excess CO2

ROME, Dec. 04, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

What:
The Laudato si’ 2018 Challenge Final Event in Rome unites experts and stakeholders to discuss ideas, and make new, specific and measurable “Commitments to Impact,” to solve forced migration. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), over 68 million people were displaced from their homes in 2017, due to conflict, persecution, environmental degradation, and lack of economic opportunity. Applicants to the 2018 Laudato si’ Challenge present practical, scalable solutions to this global problem.

Focusing on our oceans, Peter Fiekowsky, an MIT-educated physicist and climate restoration expert, will co-present the Fishery Restoration and Ocean Biocarbon Pilot Program with Emma Roseline (Roseline Emma Rasolovoahangy), an entrepreneur and recent presidential candidate for Madagascar. Peter and Emma will present a project that uses biomimicry to provide nutrients in the ocean, combining fishery restoration with climate restoration.

Launching in Madagascar in the summer of 2019, the Fishery Restoration and Ocean Biocarbon Pilot Program will provide an opportunity for the Foundation to test the program to the benefit of local Malagasy communities, who in turn can profit from the sale of harvested fish, kelp, and seaweed.

Discussion will center around the Fishery Restoration and Ocean Biocarbon Pilot Program and its intention to supplement global climate restoration efforts with measurable solutions and technology to effectively rehabilitate marine life.

About Laudato si’ Challenge:
Nearly three years after the publication of Laudato si’, Pope Francis’ encyclical letter on the care for our common home, the Pontiff’s prophetic words continue to ring in our ears: “What kind of world do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children who are now growing up?” (LS, 160). The Laudato si’ Challenge seeks to sustainably improve the lives of 10 million people excluded from Our Common Home by 2020—anticipating the SDG2030 objective of leaving no one behind—through businesses that are sustainable and ethical.
