KANSAS CITY, Mo., Feb. 12, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cerner, a global leader in health care technology, is presenting advanced interoperability enhancements at HIMSS19. Nationwide interoperability has long been a focus for Cerner, and the company continues to demonstrate new capabilities that are designed to simplify provider access to data to better inform care and empower consumers to engage in and manage their own health.
“Person-centered care drives our health care system, but that can’t be fully achieved if providers don’t have access to a patient’s complete medical record, regardless of where and when they received care, and what health IT system was used,” said Kashif Rathore, vice president, interoperability, Cerner. “We’re working toward a future that enables a greater exchange of data. When providers and patients can easily access health information and care communication is streamlined, it drives better outcomes.”
As HIMSS19, Cerner is demonstrating interoperability capabilities the company will roll out through 2020, including:
- Longitudinal patient record: gives users access to an organized, structured view of multiple clinical sources, and creates a consolidated picture of a person’s health care data.
- Open standards for edge development: enables health systems and third-party developers to create technology and apps that work across existing health records, through open data standards like Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR).
- Advanced reconciliation: allows providers to reconcile data from other trusted health care organizations with a simple action.
- Referral management: lets providers make referrals to connected specialists, transferring relevant patient data and tracking to confirm the referral care is complete.
Additionally, this year Cerner will introduce the ability for multiple providers to create a single plan to track a person’s progress. It will streamline care communication and coordination as they transition from primary care to a specialist to the hospital and back again.
In the HIMSS19 session, “Making True Nationwide Interoperability a Reality,” moderated by Cerner, CommonWell Health Alliance® and Carequality will share how they have worked together to expand nationwide interoperability on Feb. 13 at 9:30 a.m. EST in the Orange County Convention Center.
Since becoming a founding member in the nationwide health data exchange available through the CommonWell Health Alliance, Cerner now has more than 2,300 provider sites live on the network.
In 2018, Cerner was one of the first to participate in an initial rollout of the CommonWell-Carequality connection to a select number of provider organizations including Lafayette General Health.
“As soon as the CommonWell-Carequality connection went live, I was able to see the tremendous value it brought to our organization,” said Cindy Menard, RN, clinical physician analyst, Lafayette General Health. “The ability to data share and for that data to follow the patient from one facility to the next, allows for collaboration and improvement in the care of patients in ways we’ve not done before. It’s a win-win for our patients and providers.”
Since implementing the CommonWell-Carequality connection, Lafayette has electronically retrieved more than 225,700 documents from other health care systems.
