Wilmette, IL, March 04, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Year of Living Deeply: A Memoir of 1969, by Robert Atkinson, is a coming-of-age spiritual quest framed by the marker events of that historic year – the moonwalk, Woodstock, the maiden voyage of Hudson River Sloop Clearwater – focusing on the inner journey of investigating the world’s religions, while having Pete Seeger and Joseph Campbell as mentors, living in a cabin in the woods, visiting Arlo Guthrie at his farm, staying in a Franciscan monastery as an unfrocked friar, and returning to the college the author graduated from three years earlier to teach a course on folk-rock lyrics as poetry – what all his adventures had been preparing him for – and sharing with his students the lessons of a life lived deeply.
The author, Robert Atkinson, Ph.D., is an internationally-recognized expert on life story interviewing, personal mythmaking, and soul-making. He is the author of nine books including his most recent (prior to Year of Living Deeply), The Story of Our Time: From Duality to Interconnectedness to Oneness. He previously taught at the University of Southern Maine, where he was the first diversity scholar in the School of Education and Human Development, and was a co-founding faculty member of the Russell Scholars Program and the religious studies minor. He was also a faculty member on the fall 2002 Semester at Sea voyage around the world and is director of Life Story Commons, a research, educational, and service unit of the College of Education and Human Development that promotes intergenerational and intercultural understanding.
This memoir is a 50th anniversary celebration of the year that changed the life of the author and the direction of a generation. It will appeal to a wide range of readers, including those interested in U.S. and world history, religion and philosophy, and autobiographies.
