Northbrook, IL, April 10, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Digital Check Corp. has developed an updated version of its Quantum DS cheque transport for high-volume scanning and sorting operations. The new model will have both front and rear inkjet endorsing capability, in addition to a repositioned camera that can capture images of the endorsed front side of checks and documents. The Quantum DS maintains its high-speed 12-pocket sorting functionality that can be programmed according to the operator’s needs. The project was initiated in cooperation with one of Digital Check’s major distribution partners in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Quantum DS has proven itself as a popular replacement for older, full-sized reader/sorter devices such as the NDP Quantum or iTran series. Most machines in this class – which can measure up to 6.1 meters (20 feet) in length – are no longer in production, and even maintaining them presents a growing challenge for their owners. Many have begun turning to the desktop Quantum DS as a lower-cost, easier-to-maintain alternative.
“The difficulty of servicing a complex cheque transport machine that weighs nearly half a ton is non-trivial, as is the expense. Most users were spending a significant amount of money per device annually on maintenance alone,” says Robert Myers, Digital Check’s regional sales director, APAC. “Compounding that challenge is a lack of available parts, as many manufacturers are discontinuing legacy support. The Quantum DS has become popular as an intermediate device that shares many of the same capabilities with much lower support costs – and, most importantly, is still in production and under active development.”
The front-end intake and feed mechanisms for the Quantum DS are based on the SmartSource Professional, a desktop scanner by Digital Check that also remains in mass production. Because components, parts, and supplies are shared between the Professional and Quantum DS, they are much less expensive and more readily available than similar components for legacy reader-sorters.
“If you are looking for a way to replace an aging reader/sorter, Digital Check is committed to staying in the market for the long term,” Myers said. “The Quantum DS can take over the job for a fraction of the cost, and you will be able to get support and service for years to come.”
General availability of the new model is scheduled for the third quarter of 2019.
