Inventing the world’s strongest ultrasheers was no easy feat. Patent pending, SHEERTEX™ is made with the world’s strongest polymer—a miniaturized version of fibers traditionally found in climbing equipment and bulletproof vests. But there’s more to the science: opaque tights, which suffer less of the breaks, rips and snags for which pantyhose are infamous, can weigh up to 100 denier. To be considered pantyhose, a garment’s fabric has to weigh in at or under 30 denier. SHEERTEX™ Classic Sheers, which launched last year and were named among Time Magazine’s Best Inventions of 2018, meet the pantyhose requirement at 30 denier.
Ultrasheer pantyhose, on the other hand, are required to weigh in at or under 15 denier—and this reduction in weight has a resulting reduction in strength. To create something super sheer but not super breakable, SHEERTEX™ continued its extensive R&D with the world’s strongest thermoplastic at its Canadian Innovation Lab.
The result? The new SHEERTEX™ Ultra Strong Ultra Shaping Ultrasheers weigh about half as much as SHEERTEX™ Classic Sheers, which provide significantly higher transparency and sheen appearance. But more importantly, these ultrasheers maintain the serious strength for which SHEERTEX™ is known. While a single strand of traditional ultrasheer pantyhose supports a nominal weight of 0.15 pounds, a single strand of the new SHEERTEX™ Ultra Strong Ultra Shaping Ultrasheers can support a whopping 1.4 pounds.
