OAKVILLE, Ontario, April 29, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In advance of the May long weekend and unofficial kick off to summer, MADD Canada is partnering with the LCBO to promote sober driving and raise funds for the charity’s youth services, public awareness and education programs. The #GetHomeSafely prompted donation campaign kicks off May 2 and runs until May 19 in more than 660 stores across the province.
“We want to reach students early with our message about sober driving and then build upon it throughout their school years,” said MADD Canada Chief Executive Officer Andrew Murie. “We want to help them develop a foundation for life-long safe and sober driving.”
“With many Ontarians taking to the road over the long weekend, the LCBO is proud to partner with MADD Canada as part of our ongoing commitment to our customers safety and the wellbeing of our communities,” said George Soleas, President & CEO, LCBO. “Together with the support of LCBO employees and kind donations from customers, we can stop impaired driving to ensure everyone gets home safe and sound.”
During the campaign, customers will be asked at check out if they would like to donate $2, $5, or $10 as part of their purchase.
With support from the LCBO, MADD Canada delivers powerful alcohol and drug awareness and risk-reduction to help people make informed choices and provide them with the information, motivation and confidence they need to prevent impaired driving. Young people in particular are at increased risk for impaired driving. Alcohol and/or drugs are present in about half of all road crash fatalities among 16-25 year olds.
“Thanks to the leadership of the LCBO, the enthusiasm of its staff and incredible generosity of its customers, we are able to provide awareness and education programs that prevent impaired driving and create safer roads for everyone,” said Mr. Murie.
MADD Canada thanks the public for its support when shopping at the LCBO from May 2 – 19.
