Lexington, Virginia, May 01, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty (SHECP) is pleased to announce that it will host its first-ever summit on poverty, SHECP Summit 2020, at Kennesaw State University, near Atlanta, Ga., April 3-5, 2020.
“Summit 2020 will explore the ways in which universities, nonprofit organizations, communities, and governments can better partner to meet the needs of the most vulnerable, underserved, and disenfranchised in society,” said Dr. Brett Morash, SHECP executive director. “Primary to this discussion is recognizing the ongoing partnership with individuals who experience poverty, not as a topic of study or a professional pursuit, but as a daily, lived experience.”
SHECP is now seeking proposals for individual papers, presentations, panels and workshops that focus on research, community initiatives, policy work, and best practices from across sectors. Presentations should reflect the Summit 2020 theme of “Responsibility, Engagement, and Knowledge,” which are in line with the consortium’s student learning outcomes. The deadline for submitting proposals is Nov. 15.
SHECP is also seeking sponsors to support the summit.
“Summit 2020 is an opportunity for sponsors and foundations to help advance the conversation,” said Morash. “While it starts with education to ensure understanding of the issues faced in our country, we seek to also build upon the coalition of practitioners, nonprofit leaders, community activists, elected officials, and other stakeholders—all of whom are making daily contributions to reducing poverty.”
