Kitchener, Waterloo, May 17, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Global learning technology leader D2L announced that Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC) in Spartanburg, South Carolina has joined the D2L family as they move forward on their ambitious goal to see 95 percent of their bachelor’s degree grads hired.
“Our goal is ambitious, but we've got a president and academic leadership in place that have helped us grow in real, positive ways in the past three years,” said Trey Arrington, Vice President for Operations at SMC. “So, we're hoping to continue down that path — and we need good partners like D2L to go down that path with us.”
SMC was founded to provide educational opportunities for local students working in the textile mills. Today, SMC continues to provide affordable education to students and get them career ready. They offer associate and baccalaureate degrees within the United Methodist Connection and within the liberal arts tradition. SMC’s academic program will soon allow students to continue a four-year college experience. Its curriculum ranges from the basic liberal arts and transfer program to preparation for immediate entry into the job market through career track and baccalaureate degree options.
SMC chose D2L’s Brightspace in part because of its reputation as an award-winning and innovative platform that would help them to realize their ambitious goal. They chose Brightspace for the following reasons:
- Award-winning: D2L is the exclusive Higher Education Systems and Services Consortium/E&I’s learning management software contract provider – and the first company to win the Cloud Cohort Partner Award. The award was how SMC was first introduced to Brightspace.
- Faculty Choice: SMC faculty were encouraged to test out competitor platforms and to compare against the featured offered by Brightspace. Feedback from faculty was overwhelmingly positive for Brightspace — and evaluation was singled out as “robust, easy to understand and utilize.”
- Student Experience: For a new generation of smartphone and tech-savvy students, SMC wanted a platform that would make it easy for them to learn in the off hours, at their pace, in a fully accessible way. SMC found that platform in Brightspace.
“As an institution, Spartanburg Methodist College has lived through enormous changes in the world of work and learning — and continues to lead the way,” said Puneet Arora, Chief Revenue Officer, D2L. “As they embark on their ambitious — even audacious — goal of transforming education for South Carolina students, D2L is pleased to stand as their partner in this important work.”
