YORK, Pa., May 17, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- United Fiber & Data (UFD), a leading provider of a secure, scalable, carrier-neutral dark fiber network, today announces that its highly anticipated fiber-optic network connecting New York City to Ashburn, Virginia, is live and ready for service. UFD’s wholly owned, purpose-built, greenfield network connects the company’s 13-mile metro ring in NYC to “Data Center Alley” in Ashburn, Virginia, via a 340-mile, physically diverse long-haul route. The high-capacity, low latency path provides much-needed redundancy along this critical corridor for data transit.
This newly constructed network, which is physically diverse from other routes that travel from New York to Ashburn, will serve rural communities between New York City and Virginia, and provide pathway diversity to the congested I-95 corridor. UFD’s network avoids congestion by taking a westerly path across New Jersey and Pennsylvania before heading south through Maryland and Virginia, arriving directly in Ashburn, without having to go through Washington, D.C. The company owns and operates the entire backbone with a high-count cable that is essential for transferring big data. This new pipeline’s framework is comprised of all new construction using a single manufacturer cable that is wholly owned by UFD.
“We’re thrilled to unveil this new fiber network, which offers a superior alternative along the popular New York City to Ashburn route,” said Bill Hynes, Founder and CEO of United Fiber & Data. “With UFD’s fiber, customers can achieve the redundancy required by modern-day networks with a secure pathway that can support leading-edge optical gear while maintaining low latency. The infrastructure that UFD is bringing to the east coast and rural areas helps democratize opportunity for startups and established tech companies alike. For carriers, data centers, hyper-scalers, and enterprises who are relying on aging, vulnerable infrastructure, this greenfield network can bring them into the next era of data communications.”
The long-haul route to Ashburn continues UFD’s fiber footprint across the Northeast. UFD purpose-built a 13-mile metro ring in New York City made up of primary backbone in lower and midtown Manhattan, recently adding 60+ miles of laterals stretching from Central Park to Wall Street. The metro ring reaches 330+ buildings with the capability of accessing some of the most famous carrier addresses and data centers in the industry.
