Targeting pods are tools used by military aircraft to identify targets. It guides precision guided munitions (PGM) such as laser-guided bombs to those targets. The first targeting pods were developed in the mid-1960s. Targeting pods offer advanced features such as integrated GPS that enables users to receive precise target location and allows storing and sharing data with other users, with the help of wired and wireless connection for enhanced communication. Furthermore, they allow users to obtain clear images of targets identified.
The governments are investing and upgrading their capabilities globally by placing contracts and fulfilling the needs of war fighters such as reliability rates and sniper’s availability. Moreover, ongoing investments in short-wave infrared to improve targeting capability in low and haze light will boost the market during the forecast period. Additionally, the development of a two-way data-link configuration is estimated to double the capability of targeting pods for providing surveillance, intelligence, and reconnaissance (ISR) solution to the end users.
