Irvine, CA, May 21, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- STEAM Universe, in partnership with THE Journal and Campus Technology, is pleased to announce STEAM Week 2019, a multi-day virtual event focused exclusively on STEM and STEAM in both K-12 and postsecondary education. Taking place June 18 & 20, 2019, this free professional learning series for educators will offer a wealth of ideas, best practices and unbiased case studies, presented by educators and experts in the field and moderated by our editorial team.
"STEAM Week is the premiere virtual event in STEM and STEAM education,” said David Nagel, Editor-in-Chief of STEAM Universe. “We're proud to have some of the great thought leaders in STEM/STEAM share their experiences and tips for launching successful education initiatives, including Esports/gaming and makerspaces."
Highlights of the agenda include:
Day 1: Getting into the Game with Esports
Esports for Education: A Guide to Starting and Running an Esports Team
Take a deep dive into the process of starting an Esports team, from selecting a game to convincing stakeholders to managing equipment, as well as the best ways to ensure positive educational outcomes for students.
What Esports Mean for Education
Why should a university get involved with Esports? Two higher education Esports leaders share their experiences running Esports programs on their campuses, including what it involves, why it matters, the benefits they see for students and their institution, and more.
Using Games to Enhance Student Learning
Fun and competition are the major draws for students when it comes to Esports, but for educators, it takes more than that. Two high school teachers explore the educational and personal development goals of their Esports program, which includes everything from character development and technology education to career readiness and nutrition.
Day 2: Complete Guide to Makerspaces
Designing & Planning a Campus Makerspace
Makerspaces can take many forms and are loosely defined as physical locations or studios for hands-on experimentation, building prototypes and otherwise testing ideas. Learn about the factors that need to be considered when designing and furnishing these spaces.
Makerspaces and Creating an Innovation Ecosystem
While college and university makerspaces provide a valuable resource for hands-on teaching and learning, they can also help build a culture of innovation on campus and in the surrounding community. Two institutions discuss how makerspaces contribute to an innovation ecosystem that serves the diverse needs of students, faculty, community groups, industry partners and employers.
Key Considerations for a School Makerspace
Learn how to design and build spaces for students to create, share ideas and learn, and how makerspaces can incubate STEM and STEAM skills as well as boost collaboration, critical thinking and creativity.
Each session will be followed by a Twitter chat using the hashtag #STEAMweek2019, for attendees to continue the conversation, share experiences and brainstorm. Attendees who register for STEAM Week, attend at least one session and participate in the Twitter chat during the event dates will be eligible to win one of two $1,000 grants (winners will be chosen at random).
Join us for STEAM Week on June 18 & 20, 2019, 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Pacific Daylight Time. Free registration is available now at steamuniverse.com/steamweek2019.
