Mobility technology leader Bombardier Transportation has held its 2019 Supplier Symposium. The event brought together many of the company’s key suppliers to recognize their contributions to helping Bombardier achieve organizational excellence and remain a leader in the mobility technology industry. The day-long event featured speeches by Bombardier senior leadership and included workshop sessions on topics such as supply chains, innovation, standardization, and working capital optimization.

Jim Vounassis, Chief Operating Officer, Bombardier Transportation, said, “I am very pleased about the constructive exchange with our most important players in the supply chain. We see this as confirmation of our partnership and look forward to future collaboration with them, contributing to business excellence and on-time delivery to our customers.”

A highpoint of the event was a ceremony where Bombardier recognized three of its top suppliers with the Diamond Award. Chinese aluminium manufacturer Jilin QIXING Aluminium Industries Ltd. was awarded for its support in reducing lead times on some of Bombardier’s key projects as well as its adaptability and consistently swift responses to Bombardier requirements. The Germany-based C parts provider Keller & Kalmbach also received the Diamond Award in recognition for their contributions to helping Bombardier reduce inventory and simplify its supply chains. Another Diamond Award winner was Motherson Rolling Stock (KTP & PKC). Formerly known as Kabel Technik Polska, Motherson was commended for committing to significant cost optimizations using their capacities in Poland and their recent acquisition of Bombardier’s rolling stock electrical component and systems business in UK.

Raffaele Muscetta, Chief Procurement Officer, Bombardier Transportation, commented on the award-winning companies, “Under the motto ‘Winning together in the market’, the Diamond Award Supplier Program ensures that the industry's most dedicated and efficient professionals work together to achieve Bombardier's goals and exceed customers' expectations."

Suppliers with Diamond certification build a true long-term relationship with Bombardier and receive immediate and long-term advantages, such as recognition and guaranteed participation in new bids.

“We hope the example set by these suppliers will encourage more companies to strive for excellence and to achieve Diamond certification,” added Muscetta.

Bombardier Transportation processes between $6 and $7 billion US in supplier payments per year and works in close partnership with over 4,500 small, mid-size, large suppliers around the world.
