Sokolove Law and ElderLawAnswers Team up to Shed Light on Nursing Home Abuse

Series of Podcasts Focuses on the Various Issues Affecting Residents of Nursing Homes Today

WELLESLEY, Mass., Sept. 29, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sokolove Law, LLC, a legal advertising firm dedicated to fighting on behalf of clients who have been the victims of nursing home abuse, has recently partnered with ElderLawAnswers to present a podcast series focused on the systemic problem of abuse. This podcast series entitled, "Nursing Home Abuse: Are your loved ones safe in a nursing home?" isfacilitated by Rachel Gotbaum, a special correspondent for NPR (National Public Radio). The series provides a voice to both the families of victims and key national players who are passionate about the issues surrounding nursing home abuse.

"For over 30 years, our firm has been advocating on behalf of nursing home abuse victims.   The problem has increased and is substantial," says James Sokolove, Chairman of Sokolove Law, one of the nation's largest marketers of legal services. "We're excited to join forces with ElderLawAnswers because, like us, they understand the exact problems that seniors and their families face when abuse happens. Our goal is to change the system and ensure that nursing home residents are provided with safe, quality care."

The series is featured on Sokolove's website as well as ElderLaw Radio on ITunes. Interviews in the series include:

  • Barbara Salerno, the daughter of a nursing home abuse victim
  • Janet Wells, the director of the nationally recognized advocacy group National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care
  • Attorney Jim Sokolove with an overview of the litigator's role in holding nursing homes accountable.
  • Scott Plumb, a representative from the Massachusetts Senior Care Association with perspective on the nursing home industry's challenging reliance on Medicare and Medicaid.

Harry Margolis is the founder of ElderLawAnswers and has been an advocate on behalf of nursing home victims for over two decades. He is the author of ElderLaw Forms Manual and the publisher of ElderLaw News. He is also a Fellow and former member of the Board of Directors of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and founding President of the Academy's Massachusetts Chapter.

"We are delighted that Sokolove Law is partnering with ElderLawAnswers to shed light on this matter of crucial interest to the elderly and their families.  Millions of families trust that their loved ones will be properly cared for in nursing homes, but abuse and neglect of vulnerable residents continues due to an inadequate system of protections," says Harry Margolis, Founder of ElderLawAnswers. "Jim Sokolove has spent a career championing the rights of victims and their families after abuse has occurred.  We're excited he's sponsoring this series that explains why residents are still vulnerable and what steps families can take to keep their loved ones safe."
