Global Travel Company Thomas Cook Named Overall European Winner in 2018 Selligent Awards for Consumer-First Marketing

German subsidiary honored for excellence in digital marketing powered by Selligent Marketing Cloud B2C marketing platform

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. and MUNICH, Germany, Dec. 18, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- B2C marketing automation company, Selligent Marketing Cloud, today announced that Thomas Cook GmbH, the German subsidiary of British global travel company Thomas Cook Group plc, was named the overall European winner of the 2018 Selligent Awards for Consumer-First Marketing. Regional winners were presented at this year’s Reconnect18 events, with Thomas Cook nabbing the highest honor based on its exceptional digital marketing strategy, execution and results.

“Selligent Marketing Cloud offered us high flexibility for our email content and steering mechanisms – with majority of options done ad-hoc and via self-service,” said Dr. Georg Welbers, Director Omnichannel Marketing, Sales & eCommerce, Thomas Cook GmbH. “Complex journeys and constraints were handled easily, enabling us to constantly make improvements. We are honored to receive this award and look forward to expanding our use of the platform to deliver relevant and personalized experiences to our customers.”

Thomas Cook’s campaign aimed to increase brand loyalty and personalized engagement with travelers. They designed a fully-automated and complex email program with custom content, optimized send time and frequency to surface relevant offerings that make every customer’s trip memorable. In addition, Thomas Cook’s network of travel agencies are able to customize their own messaging – offering that added personal touch.

The campaign achieved more than 75 percent open rates and 30 percent click-through rates. They also saw higher value bookings and re-booking frequency for travelers who used their mobile app and web site ”Travelguide” linked from every email.

“At a time when it is more important than ever to find the best way to stand out in a crowded inbox, Thomas Cook did just that by truly putting the customer’s needs at the very heart of their strategy,” said Kate Barrett, founder of E-Focus Marketing and one of the 2018 Selligent Awards judges. “Alongside a clever use of technology, Thomas Cook showed that looking deeper and truly understanding the customer journey is vital to getting the best results.”

“We are constantly impressed with the creativity and customer focus that our clients bring into their marketing strategies,” said John Hernandez, CEO of Selligent Marketing Cloud. “Thomas Cook’s campaign sets the pace for how marketing technology can truly enable a personalized experience for consumers while also driving key business results.”

In addition to Kate Barrett, the 2018 Selligent Awards independent panel of judges included renowned marketing and business innovators from across Europe: Miguel Artiach, client experience expert in Spain, Valentina Carnevali, president of Direct Marketing Association Italy, Martin Nitsche, president of German Direct Marketing Association, Jordie van Rijn, Jordie van Rijn, owner and consultant at eMailMonday in the Netherlands, and Alexandre Stopnicki, angel investor and director of Da Vinci Institute in France.
