A Press Agent's Advice to Al Gore


LOS ANGELES, Nov. 23, 1998 (PRIMEZONE) -- Having handled some of the entertainment industry's biggest celebrities, ranging from Michael Jackson to Charlton Heston, Barbra Streisand, and Nancy Kerrigan, entertainment publicist Michael Levine has offered some advice to vice President Al Gore in the wake of the recent Republican election defeats and in lieu of Clinton's current impeachment hearings.

Though Levine feels that Gore has some significant challenges to overcome of his close connection with a scandal-ridden President, he offers the Veep the following PR advice:

-- Stop looking stiff. Loosen up. Gore's inflexible image could be a real body ache if the republican nominee has any charisma at all.

-- Become your own man. It won't be enough for Gore to portray himself as Clinton without personal baggage; he must develop a hard core agenda beyond protecting the environment and promoting new technology.

-- Prove you can take a punch. In the rough and tumble of elections, he needs to be able to bounce back from the inevitable ups and downs of a strenuous campaign, something our current Commander-in-chief has made an art form. If Gore has taken any note of Clinton's perpetual rebounds, Gore should be well on his way in this capacity.

-- Pray for luck. Clinton has an abundance of it -- good and bad. But he's been amazingly fortunate in his adversaries Starr and Gingrich. For Gore, the most important factor may be the one he can least control -- the luck of the draw.
