Norsk Hydro, the oil and energy, light metals and plant nutrition group, recorded substantial growth in operating revenues and earnings in the first half of 2000. Operating revenues of approximately NOK 71 billion were 45 percent higher than the NOK 49 billion registered in the first half of 1999. Furthermore, operating income of NOK 13,761 million (USD 1,617.6 million) was nearly NOK 11 billion more than earnings in the same period of last year.
Net income in the first half of 2000 was NOK 5,226 million (USD 613.5 million), or NOK 20 per share (USD 2.35). The corresponding figures in 1999 were NOK 1,969 million (USD 252.9 million) and NOK 8.60 (USD 1.10).
Operating income of NOK 7,032 million in the second quarter of 2000 exceeded the record result achieved by Hydro in the first quarter of this year. Earnings were NOK 1,750 million in the second quarter of 1999.
