American Chemistry Council Launches "From Chemistry to Energy" Video Contest

Trade association offers $10,000 first prize, asks video makers to illustrate important links between chemistry and energy

Seattle, Dec. 14, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Zooppa, the leading source of user-generated advertising, and the American Chemistry Council (ACC), an association of leading companies engaged in the business of chemistry, have launched a new video contest, "From Chemistry to Energy."

The contest is designed to educate Americans on how chemistry is creating energy solutions for a strong, secure and sustainable future. It asks contest participants to create a video 1 to 4 minutes long that demonstrates how chemistry enables the United States to produce energy, use it more efficiently, and reuse it wisely while helping to create jobs and grow the economy.

"When people think about energy, they don’t automatically connect it with chemistry, despite the fact that one isn’t possible without the other," said Ryan Baldwin, communications manager at ACC. "Chemistry has made it possible for America to tap into our natural gas reserves, as well as use and reuse energy in more efficient and sustainable ways. We look forward to seeing some of the creative visuals and approaches through which the Zooppa community chooses to tell this story."

Films should weave energy production, use and reuse together into one compelling narrative. For example, a video maker might begin with the shale gas revolution and how chemistry is leveraging new natural gas supplies to support new economic growth and jobs, and then illustrate Americans using interesting chemistry-driven products to save energy and complete the energy life-cycle with the innovation behind energy recovery.

The entry deadline is January 23, 2012. Videos will be judged on production value, message delivery, originality and scientific accuracy.

Prizes are as follows:

1st Place: $10,000

2nd Place: $4,000

3rd Place: $2,000

4th Place: $1,000

5th to 10th Place: $500

"Achieving energy security is an important issue in the U.S. and across the globe, and we’re happy to play a role in telling this story," said Wil Merritt, CEO, Zooppa. "It’s a new and unique topic for our community and we look forward to seeing our members explore it in powerful and imaginative ways."
