SimplyThick is a thickening agent, used to manage swallowing difficulties and is sometimes added to infant formula or breast milk to help babies swallow their food and keep it down, without spitting up. It is also used in older children and adults with swallowing problems caused by trauma to the throat.
Recently, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expanded its prior warning of a possible link between SimplyThick and a life threatening condition in babies called necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). The FDA is currently advising parents, caregivers and health care providers not to feed SimplyThick to infants.
According to the FDA, symptoms to watch for include: bloated stomach, greenish-tinged vomit and bloody stools. Please contact your health care professional if your baby has any of these symptoms or if you have other concerns related to using SimplyThick.
