New York, NY, Sept. 19, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (http://www.myprgenie.com) -- Information Management, a SourceMedia brand, has released its third annual "40 Vendors We're Watching." The list spotlights big data companies, real-time analytics providers, cloud mash-up developers and other innovative software firms that are changing the way enterprises manage information.
The 40 vendors were chosen by the magazine's editors with the help of a dozen leading IT professional firms and analysts. The editors and experts created an initial listing of more than 100 companies, each selected for its ability to deliver technologies that offer practical solutions to IT managers charged with exploiting new opportunities for their organizations. The editors extensively researched each vendor's products and sales, and considered overall IT buying trends and technology adoption rates, to pick the 40 companies on the list.
"We noticed significant product interest in areas of big data, data analytics, and other technologies that enable organizations to find new markets, get closer to customers and grow," says Information Management Editor-in-Chief Julie Langenkamp-Muenkel. "Business intelligence software and services also remains a strong and evolving marketplace for technology buyers. It's gaining new attention particularly where there are options for self-service, cloud hosting, mobile access and the incorporation of third-party data."
Among the "big data" names on the list are MapR, Cloudera, DataStax and Hortonworks.
The 2012 list includes several newcomers -- such as Yellowfin, which offers collaborative BI tools, and Roambi, which offers mobile real-time analytics -- as well as companies that made the list in past years. These include 1010data, which provides cloud-based data warehouse analytic reporting services; Birst, which offers a cloud based BI platform; GoodData, which distributes cloud-based mash-up reporting analytics; Tableau, which provides visualization/search analytics; and QlikTech, which markets business discovery and visualization software.
A number of specialty or best-of-breed applications vendors also made the list this year, including Clarabridge, which offers natural language processing and text analytics; and JackBe, which provides real-time operational intelligence.
"Technology investment is proceeding inevitably within enterprises despite lingering economic uncertainty," says Tony Carrini, publisher of Information Management, "and many of these entrepreneurial vendors and startups are helping to grow the overall IT market from the bottom up."
